Our Second Little Angel - Update

I had my 29 week check up yesterday and I couldn't report better news!  I was THRILLED to find out I do not have Gestational Diabetes this time around!  You have no idea what a huge relief that is for me!  Of course, now I have to use my own willpower to control my weight gain.  This is not an easy thing.

So far, the baby is progressing very nicely.  He's 3.3 lbs and currently breach.  The doctor said there's still plenty of time to right himself so I'm going to assume that will be the case.  Apparently his head is rather large (which concerns me a bit) but hopefully it will even out as he grows.  He continues to be very active so there is never a time I "forget" he's there. :-)  It's tougher than I thought to be pregnant in the summer.  While I'm just 7 months, I feel like I sweat all the time.  Oh the joys.

In speaking with the doctor, she was fine with scheduling an induction so we plan to meet this little person on Wed. Nov. 3.  You know me, I love having a date to work from!  Noah seems to be more accepting of a little brother these days and he'll even pat my belly and say "baby." He, however, has not been very helpful in determining a name.  We have a couple out there that could work, but nothing has stuck so far.  I think we're actually going to wait until he's born and see what he "looks like."  Normally I would not be a fan of this approach but I don't want to settle with something I'm not completely happy with (for all our sakes!)

On another note, we had a breakthrough at school today with Noah!  He actually told his teacher he had to go potty!  This is a first and I was so excited to hear the progress.  I had to force him on the potty this am (which is what they told me I'd have to do) b/c he knows what he needs to do, he's just lazy.  I suppose I'd be the same way if I had someone changing me all the time.  I think this weekend we're going to brave the "big boy" underwear.  With Mike and Dana both out of town, we're on our own and I don't anticipate us leaving the house much.  It should be the perfect opportunity to try it out.  It could be the best decision or the worst mistake I make but only time will tell!

That's all for now!

Lions and Tigers and Bears Oh My!

For the past several years, I've had a gi-normous lion "protecting" my office.  It was a gift from Discovery networks.  I once thought about bringing it home for Noah but every time he came close to it, he freaked out a little, so I figured it was ok to leave at work.  Now that our offices are moving in December, the time came for me to clean out all things that aren't necessary.  I decided to take my chances by bringing the lion home.  Had I known the reaction I was going to get, I would have done it much sooner!

Noah fell IN LOVE with this stuffed toy! Ever since I brought the lion home, he's wanted to take it with him everywhere - upstairs, downstairs, to school, etc.  He's even thrown tantrums because of it.  It's become a fixture in our living room.

He enjoys lounging on the thing, or pulling it around by the tail.  Good thing the lion doesn't mind.

Noah seems to get such a kick out of it, we were curious how he'd feel seeing them in person.  We were able to take him to the zoo while we were in Wichita last weekend.  He LOVED getting to see all of the animals.  He couldn't stop talking about the lions and tigers.  The chimpanzees were pretty cute too!

Looks a lot like Noah's lion at home!  This is the daddy.  There was also a mommy and two young boy cubs. We got to see all of them, but the daddy seemed most interested in eying Noah.  I was very glad there was thick glass separating us.
We opted to get a family photo with the bronze lion family.  Noah insisted on riding it. :-)

Noah finally got to see the tigers he kept asking about but then he was more interested in the water fountain in the building.

Aunt Dana was also very intrigued by the tigers! Take a look at that paw!

The giraffes were pretty neat too.  There was a baby as well and we went to the station to feed the giraffes.  Some of the kids had some luck.

Noah wasn't so lucky though.  All he wanted was to feed the giraffes but by the time he had something in his hand the giraffe had walked off.  We stood there for probably twenty minutes trying to get the giraffe to eat his leaf, but no such luck.
I think we ended up wandering the zoo for 4 hours.  I'm not sure how we survived the heat, but we did!

Noah didn't have to go without playing in the water that weekend.  Grandma let him water the plants and the grass (and her - he's a smart one!).   He thought it would be funny to put the water on grandma.  She came into the house soaked.  I wish I had gotten a picture of that!
I think this past week, Noah started going through some separation anxiety.  He's been hysterical whenever Mike or I took him to daycare.  I think it's more of his way of dealing with the baby.  He certainly keeps us on our toes!
As far as the baby is concerned, he's still very active!  I took my glucose test 2 weeks ago and was supposed to find out if I'm diabetic within 3-7 days.  It's now been two weeks and I haven't heard anything, so I'm going to take that as a good sign!  I started my 2 week check ups (I have my next one on Monday) so I assume if there is anything to tell, they will let me know at that apt.  If I have my way, I'll get to be induced again, and hopefully around the 5th.  That would give me 10 more weeks!  It's going to come fast.
We've continued to do lots to the house.  Mike spent all day Saturday working on Noah's room while I was working on the baby's.  Both are coming along really nicely and I hope to have them pretty well done by Labor Day weekend.
We're still trying to survive the heat.  Doesn't seem to bother Noah like the rest of us.  Kids are resilient that way I suppose!
Until next time!
Cheers,

The Mother of all Mothers

I know it's been a while since I've written but that is because not a lot has been going on.

We have slowly been making progress with the potty training where Noah will go 1-2x a day in the potty.  We were so excited and thought maybe he was getting closer to ditching the diapers, but...not so much.  It's been 4 days and nothing.  We will keep trying and I'm sure our persistence will pay off but it's hard to be patient.

We celebrated Mike's birthday on Thursday.  I got a great picture of my two guys which is a little surprising since Noah can be rather difficult around daddy sometimes.
It's a great picture if you ask me!
I took Mike out for a quiet dinner that evening while Noah was entertained by Aunt Dana.  She has been a life saver on more than one occasion!  Noah loves his aunt though so he's always happy to see her.

The weekend was relatively low-key...we started the weekend at the pool Saturday morning.  Noah is getting better and better at being in the water.  He's getting closer to floating on his back, he loves to kick and seems to be getting the hang of things.  Other than that, we just worked on Noah's bedroom the rest of the day.  Mike spent hours taping Noah's room so we could paint some stripes - hopefully we'll get it done next week.  We are making progress on his room, but I will be so happy when it's done and I can check that off the list!

Mike and I took Noah out to Uncle Matt and Aunt Emily's on Sunday.  They watched him while we went to a movie.  Noah had been talking about seeing them non-stop so it was great that they could help us out while he enjoyed their company.  We were so appreciative but were a little concerned that Noah hadn't napped before hand.  We had hoped he would nap at Matt's but we were not so lucky.  He had a wonderful time with the two of them, which is why he never slept.  I thought he'd hang in there long enough for all of us to go to dinner. He definitely didn't want to leave Matt and Emily quite yet.  As soon as we get to the restaurant, he starts throwing fits.  He calmed down with some chips and sitting on my lap.  That didn't last overly long so he moved over to sit with Matt.  I'm going to start calling him the Toddler Whisperer because before long, Noah was out.  He didn't make it to eat dinner.  Matt was kind enough to hold him and eat at the same time.  He slept all through dinner and it wasn't until the car that he woke up.  He stayed awake our entire drive home and didn't go without asking for Matt the entire way.  We had to convince him he could see his Aunt and Uncle again soon.

It was as soon as we got into the house, Noah had the Mother of all Mother Tantrums.  First he didn't want to be put down, but when I had no choice, he then didn't want his shoes off, then he didn't want to take a bath...the screaming began, the tears, the sobs...we got him upstairs and started to undress him but the sobs only worsened.  We got him into the tub, and the kicks began with the sobs. It took everything to get him washed and out of the tub.  We kept asking if he wanted out and the answer was yes. Once he was clean, we tried to get him out and then he didn't want to but the sobs and tears continued.  I dragged him out and got him dressed.  Still crying...
It wasn't until I brought him downstairs, got him some milk and fruit that he quieted enough to eat and drink.  Once he was done, we sat on the couch and it was like nothing ever happened.  I guess this is what is meant by the terrible twos (and a lack of a nap will do this I suppose).  While the tantrums do come and go, this was by far the worst we've seen to-date.  I'm sure we're in for more, but I could do without for a while.  This was draining!

This will be another busy week at work for both Mike and I.  Tomorrow night we're going to check out a new hospital we'll be delivering the baby at (Baylor Frisco).  We won't be going back to Presby Plano due to my doctor's priveledges, but it will work out in our favor to be even closer to home (only 10 minutes from the house).  Hard to believe I'll be 26 weeks on Tuesday.  Close to entering my 3rd trimester already!

Cheers,
Corri, Mike, Noah and Baby R.
