Sick Baby

The week was a good one...until Thursday. I picked up Noah from the sitter's and he had a runny nose. We initially thought that it was due to teething. Well, after sitting up with him until 2am, it was NOT teething! He had a a nasty cough and stuffy nose. I stayed home with him on Friday and we ended up at the doctor's. Turns out he has a chest cold. I don't know if he or Mike and I suffered most! I was again up with him until 5am on Friday night and Mike took over in the morning. He seems to do much better during the day but we continue to worry at night. Saturday night, while he fussed until midnight, he did finally fall asleep and slept until 7am.

Come Sunday, I got a nice surprise from my husband - Breakfast in bed! I thought, what could I have done to deserve this? It's not Mother's Day, or my birthday...Apparently he felt I just deserved it. What a sweetheart!!

Noah and I spent the day together while Mike worked outside. Noah seemed to be feeling a little better - the smiles would pop up on occasion and for the first time, Noah rolled from his back to his tummy! He was able to do it twice but then he decided he was too frustrated to continue. He can't quite figure out how to get back to his back, but I'm sure it will come in due time. Then I supposed we'd better watch out as he'll be rolling all over the place!

Noah....and the Cubs!

Thanks to Uncle Ryan for providing the Cubs outfit. I think if Mike had his way, Noah would be in it 24/7!

Well, evening is near and Noah is once again fussy. I'd better go help Mike out - it could be another long night. We are hopeful he will be ok for daycare tomorrow. Keep your fingers crossed for us!

Wichita Weekend

It was a whirlwind weekend for us. There were a lot of firsts for Noah. It was Noah's first trip to Wichita. We left Friday morning and we had a couple of stops so that Noah could stretch his legs (and we could take some bathroom breaks!) and he was a complete angel! He slept some, talked some and even played some. We were very impressed with how well he behaved.

It was his first time to Grandpa Blick's house and while we were worried he might not sleep well, he still ended up sleeping through the night so we were very blessed! Saturday morning we were up bright and early (as usual) and it was going to be Noah's first trip to the zoo. Grandma Blick was joined us and we made it out there before it got too warm. Here are a couple pictures from the experience. It didn't take Noah long (approx. 15 minutes) before he was zonked!

At the zoo, I was able to meet up with an old girlfriend of mine from HS. Suzy brought her three kids so we were able to spend a little bit of time together catching up. It was so nice!

Before long, it was time for Noah to get home and take a nap (we'd actually spent 3 hours out there). We packed up all of our things (and I mean ALL - the bath, bed, clothes, chairs, food, etc) from Grandpa's and headed over to spend the night at Grandma's. Noah got the full tour and then decided it was time to chill (the zoo took a lot out of him).

BUT, not before we did a little time on the floor, laughing and TRYING to roll over. He got so close, but just couldn't get over that shoulder of his!

However, he's doing GREAT getting up on his arms and checking things out.

Sunday was another early morning day and after we all had brunch, it was already time to head home. It was a little more difficult for Noah this time. While he did sleep most of the journey, the time he was awake was spent squirming around, wanting to get out of his chair. You could tell he was so happy to be home when it was all said and done. He really loves to stretch!

All in all, it was a great weekend! Noah had a great time with his grandparents and looks forward to some more fun weekends (but maybe at his house instead of the long drive to KS!)

Happy Father's Day to Dad's Everywhere!

This was a relatively busy weekend for us once again. Noah had some visitors come to town - Grandma Blick and Uncle Ryan were here to celebrate our cousin Jamie's wedding. He got to hang out with grandma on Friday and Friday night we all went to the rehearsal and dinner. Despite the fact that his bedtime is between 7 and 8p, he was a very good little boy on Friday!

He had a really nice time with both grandma Blick (who played with him all weekend) and even his uncle Ryan, whom he shared a nice nap with!

Saturday was spent with mom and grandma, getting a taste of mall shopping. Again, he was an angel. We made sure he got several naps throughout the day so he would be prepared for a late night on Saturday. He got a little impatient at the wedding so dad took him to the back of the church until the ceremony was over. Surprisingly, he was a little angel at the reception - I suppose it was do to all the things to look at and take in. He didn't go to bed until 11 Saturday but was in a good mood when he woke up.

Mike is so thrilled it's Father's Day since it's his "free pass" for the year! He gets to do whatever he wants today and while he got up early with Noah, he made sure to get a nice long nap in. He's pretty excited over his father's day gift - a Craftsman tool chest. I'm sure he'll spend hours in the garage organizing and "playing with his tools.

Noah really enjoyed daddy time today too!

To all father's everywhere, especially grandpa Blick and grandpa Reichert, who we could not share today with, have a WONDERFUL FATHER'S DAY! We're thinking of you!

Noah Turns 4 Months!

It's been another busy week for the Reicherts. As of a week ago, Noah again began spitting his formula back up. He's still taking Prevacid and he doesn't fuss anymore but I was hoping he would be able to keep more of his food down. At the same time, he's been waking up in the middle of the night again. Since he hadn't been napping very well, we moved his bedtime up to 7-8p. This meant he would lose a 6 oz. bottle, which made is daily intake only 24 oz. For those of you not familiar, a baby his age should be taking at least 30 oz. It didn't seem to bother him before so I didn't worry. With him waking up now, I think he may be getting hungary. This poses a problem though as he already spits up what we give him now so how do we give him more?

Noah had his 4 mo. check up (with shots) on Friday. I asked these questions to the nurse. She said that since he does have reflux, if he's showing signs that he can swallow on his own, we should try to give him some rice cereal, which should also help with his reflux. When the nurse gave Noah one of his vaccines via mouth, she thought he was definitely ready to try cereal.

The picture is before bottle when he absolutely threw a fit. I think most of the cereal landed on his bib/clothes than in his mouth!

I also decided to take his bottles up to 7 oz. We have been trying the rice cereal the past several days. He would always fuss and cry so I thought maybe he wasn't ready. As it turns out, all I needed to do was give him a bottle prior to the cereal then he was more than willing to take it via spoon! I have a video of the experience but it was too big to download. He makes such a mess we found it easier to clean him up if he's sans clothing!

The nurse also thought that Noah might be teething the way he gnaws on his hands. It's all coming together now! Symptoms of teething can include waking up at night, increased saliva, loose stools (you really wanted to know that, right?), fussiness (which he has anyway so this was tough to differentiate) all of which Noah has! So, we are on tooth watch now to see if in the next few weeks one makes an appearance! Our baby is growing up!! :-(

The nurse weighed Noah as 14 lbs, 13 oz, and a height of 24 in. all of which are average (50th percentile) so he appears good! As I was holding Noah, the doctor was talking to me and asked if Noah was a big flirt. Apparently Noah was giving the doc one of his sheepish grins. Ladies, look out! :-) He takes right after his father!

Noah was quite the trooper with all of his shots, he screamed for about 3 minutes and stopped almost as abruptly as he began. He does NOT take after his mother in that regard! I hate shots!!

This weekend we met up with some friends, Dean and Klaire and had a picnic lunch at the Arboretum. Man was it hot! We had a really nice visit though and Noah seemed to do ok, even after his appointment the previous day. I know, I know, you're asking "where are the flowers?" Well, we were sitting under a tree and Noah did not seem too interested in posing for us. We'll get them the next time!

I think I've mentioned in previous blogs that we were trying to capture Noah's laughter on video. Well, we finally suceeded! He laughs a lot more now - he loves kisses on his neck and his sides have become more ticklish. It's so fun to make him giggle!!

That's it for this week! My cousin, Jamie, is getting married next weekend and we'll have a full house with grandma Blick and Uncle Ryan staying with us. Noah does not do well staying up late, so fingers crossed he survives Sat. night!

Another Week

Well, fortunately it didn't take Noah long to get back in the swing of things at the sitters. I was pretty worried since he was home with me for 6 days. Overall the week was fine for he and I. Mike on the other hand had a lot of stress with work. The launch of his client's website did not go as planned so he spent many long hours trying to get it going. He was supposed to go to LA for the MTV Movie Awards this weekend, but due to all of his long hours, he ended up getting sick on Friday. After all of his hard work, he couldn't reap the rewards of a successful launch. He spent Friday and Saturday trying to recover from whatever has been ailing him.

On the nap front - I really thought we made progress because on Friday for both of Noah's naps he laid down without much fuss. SUCCESS! However, Saturday his morning nap was non-existent and I was foolish enough to take him shopping with me and his aunt Dana. He did really well out shopping but lacked in the nap deptartment. He was a bear once we got home and refused to go to bed. It was the same story Sunday morning. He fell asleep in my arms so I went to put him down. He proceeded to cry for 1 1/2 hours. As soon as I picked him up, again, back to sleep in my arms. YIKES!! While Mike and I really enjoy holding him, we can tell its negatively affecting him and can not have him growing up expecting to be held all of the time.

We do continue to use some of his toys and right now he's laying in front of the TV watching Aladdin. I know, I should not use TV for a substitute, but it's nice having a bit of time to myself (and it's so cute to see him facscinated by TV)!
